We've heard the old phrase "beauty is in the eye of the beholder," but maybe that should be "beauty is in the mind of the beholder" instead. "Dove® on YouTube is about promoting positive self-esteem and helping women feel good about their unique inner and outer beauty." That's what the "About" section states on Dove's YouTube channel, and that's what their "Real Beauty" ad campaigns aim to reflect, but their latest ad has stirred up some controversy. The ad features women who experienced an interesting placebo effect after wearing "Dove: Patches" for two weeks, being told that they contained a compound that would make them feel more beautiful. People are pointing out the irony, however, of a company using the idea of "real beauty" to sell their beauty products.
