Detroit Man Brutally Beaten by Police, Captured by Dashcam Video

Detroit Man Brutally Beaten by Police, Captured by Dashcam Video

A man in Detroit was pulled over by police in late January after failing to completely stop at a stop sign. Police say they were in the area because it's known for drug dealing. When pulled over, 57-year-old Floyd Dent opened his door and allegedly said "I'll kill you." According to Dent, an officer yelled, "Get out of the car! I'll blow your head off!" No audio was recorded of the alleged threats. Caught on police dashcam video, Dent was pulled out of the car and then put into a chokehold by Officer William Melendez, who punched Dent in the head 16 times. Melendez said this was because Dent bit him on the arm, though the officer did not seek medical attention or photograph his injuries. The suspect was also kicked in the arm and tasered three times as a second officer tried to put the suspect's arms behind his back. Officers discovered Dent, who has no criminal record, was driving on a suspended license and say they found crack-cocaine in the car, which Dent says officers planted in the car. Melendez was charged in 2003 with planting evidence and falsifying reports, though he was not convicted. One more twist that adds to the controversy: Dent is black; the 10 officers involved are all white. The investigation is currently ongoing. View Now

Gayle On Film: 'Split'

Gayle On Film: 'Split'

Split - ★★★ The irony here in the title is prescient in that it sums up how this review will go for the latest from director M. Night Shyamalan. On the one hand, Scottish actor James McAvoy’s tremendous talents are on display as he outstandingly plays a man with multiple personality disorder. Each of his personality portrayals are distinct and easily distinguishable from each other. They know each other and converse with each other but are split into two groups seeking to control his actions. Conversely, the bad personalities are plotted to do the typical movie thing: kidnap some pretty women in tight sweaters and short skirts and have them suffer uncomfortably. It’s an old trope, but it’s semi-effective thanks to McAvoy’s presence. And yes, there is a twist for true Shyamalan fans - as that’s often his trademark. But you’ll just have to see it to find out what it is.   View Now
