WARNING: Video contains images of dead marine life.
Ever heard of red tide? It's a yearly phenomenon that results from overgrowth of a specific type of algae and releases toxins into the air and sea that can sicken or kill marine life. This video was taken at Lido Key Beach in Sarasota, Florida with an organization called "Hands Along The Water," a group that aims to call attention to and take action against red tide.
According to the woman in this video, this is the worst it's ever been. She shows us the increasing amount of dead sea life that has washed up on their beaches, which she says includes nine dolphins, four or five manatees and so many sea turtles that they don't have an accurate number. It's smelly, it's sad, and it has driven people away from the beach, which is a huge blow to the local economy.
