The Bald Eagle was a wise choice for the United States' national bird—this avian predator species is one fierce bunch!

Even after he's trapped in fishing line and half drowned in this Maryland river, this gutsy bald eagle fends off four well-meaning humans trying to dry off his soaked feathers. Eventually, this prideful bird takes off again without any extra help.

A relative of this particular eagle might have been the hungry "bad guy" who snatches a poor young Osprey from a nest that's monitored 24/7 by the Audubon Society and Explore.org.
