When you go on an expedition in an unfamiliar city, you hope for something great. A group of divers in the Gulf of Papagayo with Sirenas Diving Costa Rica were welcomed into the waters by a baby humpback whale. The curious whale swam right up to their boats and even said hello to one lucky diver. This is the kind of vacation memory we all hope to have!

Snorkeler and whale biologist Nan Daeschler Hauser encountered this 50,000-pound whale and walked away with incredible footage and her life. While circling around the mammal, Nan could tell the whale was abnormally touchy and it wasn't until she saw a 15-foot tiger shark that she realized why. The 63-year-old snorkeler believes this behavior is proof of the whale's intuitive nature to protect other species, she just had no idea she would be on the receiving end.
