Kidnap: ★★ 1/2
While watching "Kidnap" starring Halle Berry, I got the strange feeling I was back in the 1970s. This film harkens back to an era where there's one hero (or heroine) on a lone highway on a singular rescue mission without any of the modern niceties like the internet, cellphone or the police. In this film, you discover early on that Berry's character is in a custody dispute with her ex-husband over their son. While she tries to put on a brave face and not speak ill of her child's stepmother, this is merely back story that never plays out. After the child is snatched in broad daylight from a Louisiana theme park, she is on her own. Armed with her wits and a minivan, this big bad mom tries her best to rescue her child from some nearly-backwoods living baddies. The ensuing car chase grabs you and works your emotions, but the rest of the 82 minute film telegraphs itself with the standard predictability. View Now
