There’s this gut wrenching trend going around where people call their parents and pretend like they’re calling from prison. They make the computer sound like an automated collect call intro before the sobbing and acting comes into play. Lauren’s mom is definitely believing this is real before she FINALLY tells her it's fake. View Now
Marry Me
Jennifer Lopez is playing a pop star who's looking for love - not quite a big stretch for Lopez who actually can act. When she dumps her fiancé (Maluma) in the middle of their wedding that's become a cultural moment and instead marries a math teacher (Owen Wilson) who happens to be in the audience, you know where this is going. It puts the P in predictable, but it has just that kind of cuteness you come to expect from these kind of rom-coms. View Now
The Power of the Dog
Jane Campion's "The Power of the Dog" is the best film of 2021. This film is part mystery, romance and family elegy thanks to Campion's brilliant direction, and Ari Wegner's magnificent cinematography. Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Jesse Plemons power their way with deep, spare and well-rounded performances. View Now
Death on the Nile
If you haven't seen Kenneth Branagh's "Death on the Nile," you should see his second shot at the Agatha Christie canon. It is a visually sumptuous mystery that unfolds with perfect pacing and dramatic flair. Of note, colorblind casting is also a nice deviation from the standard Christie story. View Now
Cyrano
Put actor Peter Dinklage in a movie, any kind of movie, and he will likely delight you. As the titular character in "Cyrano," he and the rest of the cast, act, sing and carry along an above-average adaptation of the classic story of a man whose words help his true love fall for another man. The production design, costumes and casting make this story of Cyrano de Bergerac watchable. However, as good as the film is, most of the music is its albatross. It's clunky and monotonous, and most unfortunately, not memorable. View Now
