In the pantheon of Pixar movies, I have to say, Cars wasn’t in my top 3 (The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, and Toy Story are my picks respectively). Cars 2 was my least favorite, but with Cars 3, I think Disney/Pixar have successful put some boost in the movie sequel tank. Back are the familiar characters Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson), Mater (Larry the Cable Guy), Luigi (Tony Shalhoub) and others. But many of them take a back seat to the new characters. Cristela Alonzo rides shotgun as Cruz Ramirez, the personal trainer trying to help Lightning get his gears back into shape so he can avoid losing every time he sees the checkered flag. She’s also a girl who dreams of racing, and in this current “girl power moment” in popular culture, they don’t hit you over the head with politics. Throw Armie Hammer in as a challenger who wants to force Lightning into retirement, Kerry Washington, and Lea DeLaria and you’re bound to find something to tickle your chassis. Does it live up to the original? No. But that doesn’t make the movie sputter. It was fun and certainly a nice pit stop at the theater. View Now

The driver accidentally drove his tires into a couple of high-voltage power lines and the results were explosive! Apparently, the driver is okay and there were no other injuries reported.
