Brave Toddler Test Drives First Wheelchair 01:02
Thomas wasn't even born when doctors discovered he had a rare and oftentimes deadly genetic mutation called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Although doctors predicted he wouldn't live past several weeks, little Thomas is now 16 months old! Living with "Brittle Bone Disease" is a monumental challenge, because even simple movements can cause excruciating bone fractures. His genetic mutation has caused his bones to be so fragile that he has not been able to rollover, walk, or crawl yet. The rare genetic mutation has also caused Baby Thomas to have dwarfism, and he breaks a bone on average about once or twice a month. Thomas is also on a trach and ventilator to help him breathe but is expected to be able to breathe on his own as he gets older.
However, the Broadbent Family has found a special gift for brave Thomas that could change everything. Thanks to his new power scooter, Tommy can get around the house. He weighs only 12 lbs, but experienced his first time of independence in his new power chair.
Daddy had no idea that he had received the wheelchair. Keep watching for the emotional moment dad sees his adorable son test driving his new wheels!
