Brazilian soccer player Dodô was practicing with his team in Kyiv, Ukraine when the Russian invasion began. With no warning, the bombing started and Dodô needed to get out as fast as possible. Five days into the war, Dodô was able to make it to the Romanian border and from there was finally able to return home. It’s a good thing too because his wife and baby girl were at the airport waiting for him.
But Dodô wasn’t the only soccer player to make a daring escape. Fourteen other Brazilian players fled the country as well. The teammates took shelter in a hotel in Kyiv as the attacks continued. The players were with their families, and they had to travel in convoys of about 50 people as they ran for the border. It took four days and 200 miles, but eventually, the players and their families made it to Romania safely.
