Now that humans, their pets, and even wildlife live side-by-side, furry critters can end up in some pretty silly--and even dangerous--manmade situations. Thankfully, watchful humans were in the right place at the right time to help these adorable animals out of harms' way.
In the first, Jeffrey Philippi noticed his neighbor's pregnant tabby Sophia had birthed her litter in his Queensland, Australia neighborhood's storm drain. In the flick of a cat's tail Jeffrey was crawling into the drain, camera, broom and box in hand to collect the cluster of tiny, adorable kittens. This wasn't his first time fishing cats out of storm drains, but the way in was so tight it took him nearly 20 minutes to collect the mewing baby tabbies from their shocked mum and ANOTHER trip to retrieve the lonely mother.

Even the above-ground world can be full of hazards for small wildlife. National soccer spirit almost got the best of one British fox cub. RightThisMinute regular Simon Cowell (Wildlife Aid) found him nearly strangled in a soccer net. Thankfully, the cub was soon untangled, giving this story a happy ending.

Sadly, animals trapped in nets has become something we see far too often. Off the coast of Italy, a whale is hardly able to move with a mass of fishing net tangled around its tail. Rescuers from both the Coast Guard and a military vessel are out attempting to free the whale, but rescuing an animal of this size is no easy task.
