Have you ever had an experience that was so life-altering in a time when you needed it the most? That’s what happened to Lisa Abelar. She was in a troubled relationship and was struggling to stay afloat not only for herself, but also for her children’s sake. One day, kind of on a whim, she got a call asking if she wanted to join a group trip to the Grand Canyon. Lisa is so grateful she accepted that invitation.

When she was in the canyon the crazy and chaos in her life became quiet and she simply enjoyed the nature that surrounded her, and some good company. She actually met a friend named Ron who would eventually become her husband! Our RTM hosts got to chat via Zoom with the Emmy-winning filmmaker of this project (and RTM alumni), Jack Chapman!

Of the top 1,000 highest grossing films of the last 10 years, only five were directed by women of color. In fact, about 5 percent of the top 250 directors working today are women. Made In Her Image aims to change that. The non-profit recently held three-day camps over the summer where girls learned how to create their own short films. This is such an exciting program and, for young girls especially, this has the potential to open up doors for them that wouldn't have been open before.
