Men In Black: International

You'll really want to like "Men In Black: International," or MIB 4, if you will. You've got your Thor and his Valkyrie in different roles, still looking great and taking on aliens who wish to take over the world or just visit their kids. The MIB has a new hire — and it's a woman! You can't call wannabe Agent M (Tessa Thompson) a recruit as she's quick to point out she found them, not the other way around. Her first mission: go to England and figure out what's going on at HQ. She's paired with Agent H (Chris Hemsworth).

H doesn't like having a partner, but M convinces him to take her along for some galactic giggles and global alien hunting. Kumail Nanjiani as a chess-like pawn and the special effects certainly provide an adequate amount of comic relief and some good effects. Summer films like this are fun to pass the time with a bag of popcorn for some light entertainment. But movies like this should make you feel something when you leave the theater, and this re-casting doesn't truly reinvigorate the franchise.

Terminator: Dark Fate First, if you want to know what "Terminator" this would be, this could be considered "Terminator 3" based on where the storyline picks up. We begin with a robot from the future coming to find a woman. Yes, we've been here before multiple times, but this woman isn't Sarah Connor. This woman is Dani Ramos (Natalia Reyes), who's a Mexican citizen working in a car factory that's about to lay some people off due to, you guessed it, automation. But she's got a little protection — OK, a lot of protection — from an enhanced human from the future, the real Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), and the T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger). Let's just say everyone has trust issues, and the latest Terminator has an upgrade that's like going from a flip-phone to the iPhone 11 overnight. Yes, there is a lot of great action. Kudos to Hamilton for showing she can play the tough girl still AND not bothering to hide her wrinkles. But there's also some corny dialogue. Sarah and our favorite Terminator-turned-nice-guy need better stuff to say. Sure, it's a nice popcorn film, but the thrill doesn't stick with you after the credits. View Now
Gayle On Film: 'Black Panther'

Gayle On Film: 'Black Panther'

Most superhero movies follow the same general pattern: superhero, mutant, or vigilante versus a villain. The villain always wants to take over the world(s) and formulate them into his or her own nefarious image. While the hero's goal is to save the world. With Marvel Studios' "Black Panther" the usual becomes the unusual and by that I mean the exceptional. First, the film's cast is largely African American under the leadership of an African American director. Second, before the film hit the theaters it set pre-sale ticket records. There is a great expectation for a film packed with so much myth. But there's also this: a villain operating under a moral imperative. Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther. He comes from a hidden African nation that overflows with vibranium and advanced technology. It is the poster child of Twitter's popular #BlackExcellence. But the nation is on the brink of being brought out of the shadows when rogue actors get their hands on it. Now, if you're thinking, "I've seen this story before." Yes, you have and no you haven't. Boseman and crew tell the story so well and differently. Not only do we have a hero trying to balance leadership and cultural dynamics of multiple tribes, you have a king ready to rely on women to do the heavy lifting when it comes to weapons AND fighting. Here, Boseman does just that by expecting Lupita Nyongo and aide-de-camp Danai Gurira to lead the fight. Throw in exceptionally beautiful scenery, some fantastic costumes and a Disney princess who is more like Bond's Q rather than a gal in ruffles waiting for her prince to come and you've got the most amusing Marvel movie of them all. This is a film that will be deconstructed and unpacked. But at its essence, it is this: enjoyable. View Now

Toy Story 4 Simply put, Toy Story 4 is a wonderful delight, a savory comfort food you could return to again and again. Pixar excels in this series in having humor that works on one level for adults (or better "us grown-ups') and another for kids. Woody, Buzz Lightyear and some of Andy's old toys, who now belong to Molly, are concerned about her. She's isn't too thrilled about finally heading off to school. Woody stows away in her backpack and plays fairy godmother to make sure she adjusts. During a class project, she creates her own newest toy Forky, and we learn whether child-made or mass-produced, they all have the same magic. The irony is the gang has to keep an eye on Forky because the last thing he wants to do is adjust. This is complicated by a road trip and doll (with an army of ventriloquist dummies) who wants a part of Woody he's not willing to give up. But the toys have a way of making friends to add to their army. The additions include Keanu Reeves, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele who are all perfect editions to this Pixar story toy box. It earns every one of its laughs and tears thanks to a well-written script packed with humor, emotion, and adventure. Yes, Toy Story 4 will give you the ALL the feels. View Now
