Matt Damon gives a very authentic performance as Bill Baker, an Oklahoma oil worker whose daughter is convicted of murder in France. One may think of this film as a dramatic thriller and Baker as a fish out of water trying on his own to free his daughter. The court case takes a back seat to the paternal drama. It's actually a tale of two daughters. One (Abigail Breslin) whom makes Bill question what actual role she could have played in her roommate's death. The other, Maya (Lilou Siauvaud), the young daughter of a French woman who takes Bill in and inspires him to be a better dad figure. It's this relationship with on-the-nose performances that make this watchable.
