Upcycle Your Clothes With Nifty T-Shirt Hacks

Let's face it, we all have some old T-shirts lying around that we hardly ever wear. Instead of just throwing those T-shirts away or letting them take up space, Jessica Hord is showing us some creative ways to upcycle them! You can turn them into a DIY tote bag which you can completely customize, or a mosquito repellent bracelet to keep pesky bugs away. Tote Bag Hack You'll Need: — T-shirt — Scissors — Large mixing bowl — Fabric pencil/marker — Ruler Instructions: 1. Cut the sleeves off of the t-shirt. 2. Use the mixing bowl to create an outline for cutting the neck out of the t-shirt. 3. If you'd like the bottom of the tote to have fringe, turn the shirt inside out. (If you'd prefer to not have fringe, skip this step.) Use the ruler to draw a line where you'd like the bottom of the bag to be. 4. Using your scissors, cut from the bottom of the shirt to the line that you drew. Turn the t-shirt right side out if you'd like fringe and inside out if you prefer not to have fringe. 5. Tie the front strands into knots with the corresponding back strands. Once you've completed the knots all the way across, grab your first set of knots on the left side of the shirt and tie those two strands with the next two strands to the right. Continue this all the way across. 6. Cut excess fringe if needed. You're done! Put carrier oil and citronella in a dropper. Make sure it's closed tight, then shake. Set aside. 2. Measure how long you need your bracelet to be and cut double that length in strips from your shirt(s), keeping strips about an inch wide. 3. Braid three strips together, using the same technique as a hair braid. 4. Once braid is long enough to create your bracelet, you can close the bracelet any way that you'd like. Jessica takes each side of the same strip and ties it into a tight not. She continues this with each of the strips. 5. Cut off excess fringe. 6. To activate the bracelet for repelling mosquitos, apply several drops of the oil mixture and allow to dry. Then it's ready to wear. You're done! (When the bracelet loses its scent, simple re-activate with this same step.) Inspired by: One Crazy House View Now
