A teenage girl in Australia is lucky to be alive after being trapped in freezing, rushing waters for nearly two hours after her kayak capsized. Police managed to find her in a rescue helicopter, and they were able to pull her to safety. Other than showing early signs of hypothermia, the girl was just fine. Rescuers got to her in time before things could get much, much worse.
But what happens when a helicopter can't land or hover nearby for a rescue? Well, that's when they have to perch and drop off the rescuers. A pair of hikers in Spain needed immediate evacuation, so the rescuers had to go to the hikers. It takes some incredible piloting skills to keep the helicopter that steady while rescuing people.
