Going through nine months of pregnancy expecting one thing and ending up with something entirely different can be difficult to process. Laura and Heath Wilson welcomed their first child into the world four years ago but from the moment she was born, everything changed. Immediately after birth, their baby girl Beth was transported by ambulance to NICU where they were able to do several tests before putting her on a helicopter to Birmingham, Alabama.
The genetics doctor took a look at Beth and before receiving any test results, was able to diagnosis her with Pfeiffer Syndrome. Laura and Heath were overwhelmed at the news but navigated this uncertainty one decision at a time. After several hospital stays, ER visits, therapy, and surgeries for two solid years, Beth is living happily as any other 4-year-old would. While Beth will continue living with Pfeiffer, her family will always work to give her the very best quality of life.
Former teacher Chris Ulmer travels to meet Beth and her family to share her story on Special Books by Special Kids. This is what transpired and it's completely touching.
