We're all aware that the ocean is vast, but sometimes we forget about that vastness until it nearly jumps in our face! Photographer Brittany Ziegler was kayaking in the south of Maui, Hawaii when whales began to breach the surface right in front of her. Her screams aren't from fear, though. She says her screams are from pure joy and excitement. Who can blame her? Seeing that would never get old!

Meanwhile at Lake DeSmet in Wyoming, kokanee salmon are all dressed up for a night on the town. OK not really, but those colors do mean that they're ready for mating season! Forty thousand kokanee salmon were released into the lake in 2019 and two years later they're still there! So those nights on the town must be ending well...

Aggressive Hippo Chases Boat & Rhino Drives Away Lurking Tiger

We always want to see animals in the wild, but have we ever considered that the animals may or may not want to see us? Some tourists in Zambia had a terrifying encounter with a hippo after renting a boat on the Zambezi River with the goal of seeing the large mammals. One of the hippos pursued the boat, propelling itself through the water to chase the tourists. Somebody call Hollywood because that's what we call "The Fast and the Furious!" Over in India, a visitor wasn't part of the action, but they got a front-row seat to an interesting moment between a rhino and a tiger. A rhino is minding its business in a watering hole when the creature notices something lurking. In a swift moment, the rhino pounces, and the tiger goes running! View Now

Great White Gets Too Close For Comfort & Whales Love Belly Rubs

We can only imagine that the famous "Jaws" quote went through these two fishermen's minds while sailing off the coast of Australia: "We're gonna need a bigger boat!" Their peaceful morning sail was interrupted by a 13-foot long great white shark! The beast circled their boat for ten minutes, looking directly at the men and taking hits at their motor. Luckily, they made it back to shore in one piece to tell the story. Over in Guerrero Negro in Baja, Mexico, another group's close encounter with marine life was much more lighthearted. Playful grey whales pining for belly rubs surround a boat, taking turns at the surface to interact with the humans for over an hour. Calves and adults alike begged for scratches, just like our own furry friends on land! View Now
