Six passengers jumped into action when their bus driver fell unconscious while driving in China. The bus started to swerve into the median and crossed lanes of traffic until the key was pulled out of the ignition to stop the bus. Emilio Herrera and his two younger brothers overheard a man verbally assaulting two women and a toddler on the light rail. The passengers were travelling from Beaverton to Portland, Oregon when the altercation occurred. The man was screaming at the female passengers and using a racial slur. The women asked the man to stop and sit down and when he didn't the brothers decided to confront the man about his behavior. Suddenly, the man directed his rage at the brothers before eventually exiting the train.
The brothers were shocked at the other passengers who exhibited bystander behavior and did not stand up for the women. A local transportation spokesperson told The Oregonian that the behavior is disturbing and passengers should call 9-1-1 for police assistance in these situations.
