Gayle on Film: 'Operation Finale'

Gayle on Film: 'Operation Finale'

This film is based on the true story of the daring mission the Mossad conducted to bring German Nazi SS officer Adolf Eichmann to justice for his crimes of being one of the architects of the Holocaust. Ben Kingsley gives a disturbingly authentic performance as the Nazi who fled to Argentina, lived under an assumed name but never disavowed his beliefs or his like-minded friends. Oscar Isaac is solid as the Mossad agent who tries to play good cop when dealing with Eichmann. The film isn't all high tension, catch and fast escape. Director Chris Weitz leans a little more on the verbal interchanges than solely on the harrowing mission of smuggling Eichmann out and taking him to Israel. International transport in those days wasn't as easily procured as present day. So, while Isaac is working on Eichmann, the Nazi's friends and family are eager to get him back — and they have days to do it, rather than hours. Though many know the results of this mission, it left this viewer engaged and riveted as the enemy loomed large on their heels. View Now
