That's exactly what Deputy William Ball with the Franklin County Sheriff's Office did when he came across a man looking over the wall of an overpass, ready to take his own life. Before he arrived on scene, two good Samaritans had tried to help, but Ball is specially trained in Crisis Intervention Tactics. Ball also tried calm the man down, eventually and thankfully pulling him back when he tried to jump. The man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation.
