So, when 19-year-old Chris Kreis spotted a whale shark while boating with his family off the gulf coast of Captiva, the Florida teen seized this once in a lifetime opportunity and jumped in, hitching a ride on the 30-foot beast. The young daredevil jumped off his boat and latched onto the shark's dorsal fin, riding for about nine seconds before he let go. But his risky stunt is sparking controversy, because human contact can potentially harm whale sharks and other marine animals. </p>
