Star Witness in George Zimmerman Trial: 'That's Real Retarded, Sir' 00:54

She's been called "ghetto," "snarky" and "a horrible witness" on social media- but it's fair to say that 19-year-old Rachel Jeantel is far from polished. The star-witness in the George Zimmerman murder trial, Jeantel was on the phone with Trayvon Martin when the unarmed 17-year-old was shot to death by Zimmerman, who claims he did it self-defense. Besides Zimmerman, Jeantel was the last person to talk to Martin before he died. But her attitude in court has made her the subject of scrutiny online- she's responsible for getting "yessir" to trend on Twitter for repeating the phrase so often that it became comical to many. But one statement that has jaws dropping is her response to a question during her cross-examination by defense attorney Don West. After West inferred that Martin may have lied to Jeantel during their phone conversation, the Florida teen responded, "That's real retarded, sir. That's real retarded to do that, sir. Why on earth—? Trayvon did not know [Zimmerman]."

Because Carter's number was displayed on Live TV at the beginning of the call, most people have concluded that these calls were made by trolls who were purposefully trying to interrupt the trial.  View Now

Zimmerman Trial 'Star Witness' Speaks Out After 'Not Guilty' Verdict

You probably remember her as the unpolished, often abrasive young witness that made jaws drop with off the cusp statements like "That's real retarded, sir." On Monday, Rachel Jeantel, the last person to talk to Trayvon Martin before he was gunned down by George Zimmerman, sat down with CNN's Piers Morgan in her first interview since the "Not Guilty" verdict. During the interview, Jeantel was adamant that Martin "is not a thug," as he has been portrayed by some. Jeantel also stated that Martin used marijuana about two times a week, saying weed made the 17-year-old hungry- not violent. View Now
