Divers were about 25 nautical miles off the shore of South Africa checking out a naturally occurring phenomenon, when 51-year-old Rainer Schimpf suddenly found himself trapped inside the mouth of a Bryde's Whale. And like a good photographer, colleague Heinz Toperczer was on the boat getting the perfect shot of Rainer hanging out of the whale's mouth. But it didn't take away from the fear everyone felt in that instant. The Bryde's Whale is not aggressive toward humans and is generally good at sensing when people are around. This was merely an accident; however, it was unclear how deep into the ocean the whale would drag Rainer. Luckily, he lived to tell the tale.

Wildlife Photographers Capture Legitimate Moments Of Comedy In Photo Contest

Wildlife Photographers Capture Legitimate Moments Of Comedy In Photo Contest

In most wildlife photographs, you either see the picturesque nature scene or the innate, sometimes ugly circle of life. However, every living thing on earth has a humorous side and if you're lucky enough maybe you'll see that too. Photographers across the world sat before wild beasts and delicate creatures to capture their inner comedians. Over 3,500 of those photos were shared and entered into this year's Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards and now, 40 finalists have been selected. While at first glance you might think these images to be altered or "created," they are not. Each image shows a special point in time an animal shared an awkward, honest moment with the person behind the camera. We can't help but laugh at every single photograph because in one way or another these animals reflect us and our quirks. One of the creators of these awards, Tom Sullam joins our RightThisMinute hosts via Skype to share his thoughts and vision for the competition. View Now
